Joel Weinthal, MD
      Joel Weinthal, MD specializes in pediatric hematology/oncology and stem cell transplantation. He is certified by the National Board of Medical Examiners and the American Board of Pediatrics in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology. Dr. Weinthal is the director of the Stem Cell Transplant and medical director of the Apheresis Program at Medical City Hospital in Dallas. His research interests include cord blood transplantation, leukemia therapy, and supportive care for pediatric oncology patients. Dr. Weinthal earned his M.D. from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, New York, in 1985. He completed an internship and a residency in pediatrics from 1985 to 1988 at Stanford University. Dr. Weinthal completed a fellowship in pediatric hematology oncology at Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles from 1988 to 1991. He received the M. Montgomery Maze Scholarship, 1981-1985; the Rebecca Schwartz Prize for Pediatric Cardiology, 1985; the McAllister Research Fellowship, Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles 1990-1991; the Medical Staff Research Award, Children’s Hospital of Orange County 1992-1993; and the House Staff Teaching Award, Children’s Hospital of Orange County 1995. Elected among the best pediatric hematologists oncologists in Dallas as published in the July 2002, 2004, 2007 and 2009 issues of D Magazine, Dr. Weinthal is also a member of the American Society of Hematology, American Association for the Advancement of Science, Children’s Oncology Group, American Society of Clinical Oncology, and a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
